Points Thresholds
How many points do you need?
Points are scored separately for daily living and mobility. You cannot combine them.
⚠️ Important scoring rule
For each activity, only the highest-scoring descriptor that applies to you counts. If two descriptors both apply within the same activity, you score the higher one only — you do not add them together. Points from different activities are then totalled separately for daily living and for mobility.🔔 New 4-point rule — from November 2026
For new claims made from November 2026, you will also need to score at least 4 points in a single daily living activity to receive any daily living component — in addition to reaching 8 points overall. Frequently Asked Questions
How much is PIP in 2026?
From April 2026, PIP daily living is £76.70 per week at standard rate and £114.60 at enhanced rate. Mobility is £30.30 at standard rate and £80.00 at enhanced rate. The maximum combined award (enhanced on both components) is £194.60 per week, or £10,119.20 per year. PIP is paid every 4 weeks, not monthly.
How many points do you need for PIP?
You need 8 points for the standard rate and 12 points for the enhanced rate. Points are scored separately for daily living (activities 1–10) and mobility (activities 11–12) — you cannot combine them. It is possible to receive one component and not the other, or enhanced rate on one and standard on the other.
Is PIP going up in 2026?
Yes. PIP rates increased by 3.8% from 6 April 2026, in line with September 2025 CPI inflation. The enhanced daily living rate rose from £110.40 to £114.60. All existing claimants receive the new rates automatically — no action is required.
Does PIP affect Universal Credit?
PIP is not counted as income for Universal Credit purposes and does not reduce your UC award. However, receiving the daily living component of PIP may support a claim for the LCWRA element of UC (worth £416.19/month in 2026), subject to a separate Work Capability Assessment. What is the new 4-point rule for PIP from November 2026?
From November 2026, new claimants must score at least 4 points in a single daily living activity, as well as reaching 8 points overall, to receive the daily living component. This rule applies to new claims only — existing awards are not affected until their next scheduled review. Scotland's ADP is not adopting this rule. The Timms Review, due in autumn 2026, may recommend further changes to the PIP assessment framework.
Can I get PIP if I am working?
Yes. PIP is not means-tested and is not affected by whether you work, how many hours you work, or what you earn. It is assessed solely on how your condition affects your ability to carry out the 12 daily living and mobility activities on most days.
